CRAFTED BY MALIAN REFUGEE ARTISANS

IN BURKINA FASO

This collection preserves age-old artisan techniques from the Tuareg community of northern Mali who are currently refugees in Burkina Faso. Supported by Afrika Tiss, the collection features home decor and jewelry that fuse artisanal leather, hammered metals, natural materials (such as calabash) and accents of colorful fabrics. No matter how little they carried on their backs when fleeing fighting in Mali, all Tuareg refugee artisans brought with them their outstanding skills in leather and metal work passed on through the generations. The cultural identity and symbolism of the Tuareg are beautifully intertwined in every piece.
